CHILD SUPPORT

Review of child support assessment

The Child Support Agency calculates child support with reference to the formula set out here. However, it is open to either parent to apply for a review of child support on a number of grounds.

Either or both parents can seek a review of the administrative assessment made by the Child Support Agency for the payment of child support if, for example, they asserted that the assessment did not make proper and adequate provision for the financial support of the children taking into account the other party’s income or financial resources, the care arrangements for children or educating the children in the manner the parents intended.

A child support registrar will then consider the Review application and decide whether or not the amount of child support payable should be changed, or remain in line with the assessment.
