LAURA DONNELLY

Director

alssdfLaura has been practising Law for over 18 years and is one of the two founding directors of HDC.

Laura is recognised by her peers as a leading family and divorce lawyer including in parenting and children’s matters.

Laura grew up in regional New South Wales, and completed her tertiary education in Canberra before moving to Sydney. With a unique combination of degree qualifications in Communications and Law, Laura commenced her career dealing primarily with complex parenting disputes.

Over the last almost 2 decades in practice, Laura has continued to provide advice and representation in the entire range of parenting issues including those involving risk issues and international relocation/child care arrangements, as well as those touching on more niche areas of family law such as where her clients face issues intersecting with defamation, publication and privacy matters.

Additionally, Laura represents her clients throughout their financial settlements, with her clients often having to face the valuation of and/or unravelling of complex financial arrangements in order assist them to move forward with the next stage of their life, to being as secure as possible, following their separation, or at the commencement of a new relationship.

Laura’s experience makes her well positioned to manage confidential and sensitive family law matters. Her clients come from a wide range of backgrounds, representing those faced with challenging financial and personal circumstances, high performing and high-profile professionals, sportspeople and those in the entertainment industry.

Laura’s clients find her to be knowledgeable and personable. She recognises the often extremely challenging situations her clients face, the toll legal matters can take, and brings a pragmatism to her management of those issues within the family law system. This ensures appropriate consideration is given to the most suitable pathway for the individual, whether it be resolution by mediation, collaboration, arbitration or as a last resort, litigation.

Laura is also an accredited Collaborative Lawyer, working with her client’s and colleagues in those matters to reach a settlement that meets their interests, needs and concerns, without necessarily being determined by the relevant legislative pathway.

As an Accredited Specialist in Family Law, Laura has specialised in family and children’s law since her admission and is also approved by the Attorney General’s Department as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, acting as a mediator in family law disputes for over 10 years.

Laura has been appointed by the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia to act as a litigation guardian as recommended by the Law Society of NSW.

Actively engaging in community work, Laura has provided pro-bono services on behalf of her firm for over 10 years including to the Women’s Legal Service.
